DUBUQUE- After going undefeated last year, the Loras Men’s Soccer team has realized that it is going to be a tougher season then they had thought.

After losing to St. Thomas last weekend the men are trying to look past it and move on.

“We’re positive and fighting through that and realizing that it’s going to be hard to go undefeated again and you know the St. Thomas one really hit home a little bit more.” said Loras coach Dan Rothert.

After their upset loss they got together and understood the real reason they are at Loras to play soccer.

“We had some big team meetings and kind of discussed things with some individuals and got back to just having fun and taking it one game at a time. I think that was a really important part.” said Rothert.

With the opponents sitting back making it tougher for the Duhawks to score; they have to find other ways to win the game.

“We have to be patient and look for ways to score and not be frustrated with each other if it’s not going our way right away, those types of things are important.” said coach Rothert.

Overall Rothert is happy with where the men are at in the season and hopefully they will continue on and reach their goal of making it to the NCAA tournament.

DUBUQUE- After a tough loss to Carthage the women’s soccer team had some work to do.

“The Carthage game we just didn’t come out ready, and we’ve improved on a lot with practice in communication and possession of the ball,” said team captain Torey Murray.

That hard work paid off with a win against the long time rival and undefeated Wheaton College.

“It was pretty amazing, we’ve played Wheaton every year, and now beating them is the most amazing feeling,” said Murray.

Jenna Kosek seems to think there is one key to keeping the teams momentum going after the big win last week.

“Yeah i think the big thing is communication with team, we just need to step that up within the team and then other things will fall into place,” said team captain Jenna Kosek.

With that in mind, the Duhawks look like they are on their way to another successful season.

Dubuque-The Loras women’s tennis team started out a little rough this year, but are working on improving their weaknesses.

“I think some of the things we need to work on are our consistency, just keeping our heads straight and just keeping the big W in mind is probably the biggest thing,” said sophomore tennis player Clare Tushscherer.

The women might be young and inexperienced, but their new faces are stepping it up to help get those wins.

Head coach Karl Stubben said, “We have a lot of new kids playing this year, a lot of new kids contributing, just getting them familiar with the way the conference works and the level of play is the big thing at this point.”
Even though St. Ambrose is a non-conference match they are Loras’ biggest competitor this year, but coach has faith in the women.

“That’s a match that I kind of have penciled in as one that if we could find a way to get that one, I think that means we took some huge steps forward. They are going to be very tough, but we’re always fired up,” said coach Stubben.
Coach Stubben says this is the most productivity that he has seen in his 4 years of coaching at Loras and hopefully the girls will keep improving.

The women are on track and will hope to continue winning their matches throughout the year.
